Here is the comparison of the power of computer processors. Intel and AMD brands.
For each processor, we took the average of the last 250 results on Geekbench 4.
The top for calculations:
The Intel Core i9-7980XE is currently the most powerful processor. With 18 cores, it should soon widen its gap with the competition, because many software used in benchmarks are not yet able to handle more than 16 cores, like Winrar. Software and games over time will also be better able to exploit such chips.
The top for games:
The recently released Intel Core i7-8700K has the record for best single-core performance. Since most games are optimized for processors with just a few physical cores, it is the most interesting in this category. It beats the 7740X and the 7700K flat. In addition, its price is not excessive.
We can see here the evolution since the processors of the years 2004-2005. The leap forward is quite exceptional even if the progression has slowed down quite a bit between 2012 and 2017.
